Art Directors' Club of Philadelphia event review Copywriting for Flash presentation about a world-renowned photographer Steve McCurry, who spoke to the Art Directors' Club of Philadelphia. Flash design by Chris Ovdiyenko. Sample copy: Eyes of the World The eyes -- piercing, haunted, serene. In image after image, you are drawn to the eyes. The eyes, it is said, are the window to the soul. Steve McCurry captures the eyes of the people he photographs, and bares the essence of their souls. World-renowned Magnum photographer Steve McCurry talked about his work to the Art Directors' Club of Philadelphia on December 18, 2001. "My real ambition was to see the world and experience different cultures," he said. His stirring photography allows the rest of us to experience them as well. Every time McCurry goes on assignment -- India, Nepal, Afghanistan -- he allows time for just walking around, finding the heart of a place. "Most of my portraits are just people I meet on the street," he said. Sometimes he'll see interesting people and follow them, waiting for them to step into just the right setting for a photograph. Or he'll spend a few days in a place -- like a Buddhist monastery -- until the people forget he is there and relax. Then, he captures their openness. "The pictures I like the most are inevitably found moments, serendipity" McCurry said. A boy covered with the red powder of a religious festival, women huddled against a dust storm, a child taking a bath in a bucket -- images found by waiting and watching. Images that reveal the depth of humanity. The Art Directors' Club of Philadelphia was inspired to see humanity through Steve McCurry's eyes.
